The egg to the west

082204_Arch_egg

Vacation: St. Louis Arch taken on 08/22/2004 05:51:45 PM

When I tell people I'm from St. Louis, they often ask; "Is that the place that has that big arch thing?"

The St. Louis Arch or the Gateway to the west. The lighting in the egg shaped elevators caught my attention. Although once they crammed 6 people in the little space, I couldn't wait to get out. Thank god it was only a 5 min ride to the top (630 feet).

The stainless steel struture was completed in 1965 and can sway up to 18 inches in 150 mile per hour winds. My guess is that you don't want to be up there in 150 mile per hour winds.

It's nice. It looks like some sort of ancient temple.
I'd also hate to tell you this, but most modern skyscrapers move that much or more just from the sun in an average day.
